I have previously spent the holy month of Ramadan in different Arab/Muslim countries: Beirut, Dubai and Istanbul. While most people in the Muslim world would limit it to the abstention of eating and drinking, an occasion strictly limited to family gatherings and praying. Not in Egypt. Nowhere else in the Arab world you could ever feel the Ramadan spirit better than Egypt. For Egyptians it's a month full of festivities, a combination of spirituality, extreme social interactions and entertainment, that both Muslims and non-Muslims would enjoy. Since ages, Egyptians brought a lot of flavors, colors, and rituals to this month, making it impossible for anyone not to fall under its charm. Here are some aspects explaining how Egyptians celebrate Ramadan in their unique way. |
